Calcium Carbide

High-Quality Calcium Carbide for Acetylene Production, Metal Processing, Chemical Manufacturing & Industrial Applications

₹100.00

Calcium Carbide (CaC2) is a grayish-black, crystalline chemical compound that reacts vigorously with water to produce acetylene gas (C2H2), a fuel used in welding. Industrially, it is manufactured in electric-arc furnaces and used for cutting steel, producing calcium cyanamide (fertilizer) and in chemical synthesis. It is often yielding a garlic-like odor.

Applications of Calcium Carbide:

  • Acetylene Production: It reacts with water to produce acetylene, a fuel gas used in oxy-acetylene welding and cutting.

  • Steel Industry: It is used as a desulfurizing agent to remove sulfur from iron and steel.

  • Chemical Synthesis: It serves as a raw material for producing calcium cyanamide (fertilizer) and in organic chemistry, including the production of acetylene derivatives and various chemical substrates.

  • Other Applications:

  • Signal Flares: It is utilized in floating, self-igniting naval signals.

  • Soil Testing: It is used to determine moisture content in soil.

  • Toy Cannons: It is used in "carbide cannons" to create noise.
