Nitric Acid

₹34.00

Nitric Acid (HNO3) is a highly corrosive, strong mineral acid and powerful oxidizing agent, appearing as a colorless to pale yellow/reddish-brown liquid. It appears as a colorless, yellow or red fuming liquid with a pungent odor. It is primarily used in producing fertilizers (ammonium nitrate), nylon precursors and in metal processing. It is famously hazardous, capable of turning skin yellow and causing severe burns.

Applications of Nitric Acid:

  • Fertilizers & Agriculture: The primary use is creating ammonium nitrate and calcium nitrate for fertilizer, supplying essential nitrogen to crops.

  • Metal Processing & Metallurgy:

  • Purification: It is used to purify noble metals like gold, silver and platinum.

  • Etching/Pickling: It is used in etching Stainless Steel, removing rust and etching electronic circuit boards.

  • Aqua Regia: It is combined with hydrochloric acid to form Aqua Regia to dissolve precious metals.

  • Chemical Manufacturing:

  • Polymers: It is used to create Adipic acid, a precursor for nylon manufacturing.

  • Polyurethanes: It is used to make toluene diisocyanate (TDI).

  • Rocket Fuel: It is used as an oxidizer in liquid-fueled rockets, including red fuming nitric acid (RFNA).

  • Other Industrial & Technical Uses:

  • Woodworking: It is used to artificially age pine and maple, giving them a gray-gold color.

  • Laboratory Reagent: It is essential in chemistry laboratories for testing chloride and in spectroscopic analysis.

  • Water Treatment: It is used in wastewater treatment to regulate pH levels.
