Potassium Hydroxide (KOH)

₹135.00

Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) flakes, commonly known as caustic potash, are white, highly caustic, odorless, highly hygroscopic (moisture-absorbing) and deliquescent solid flakes (typically 85%–90% purity) used as a strong base in industrial, chemical and agricultural applications. Caustic Potash is widely used for industrial processes like soap making, chemical manufacturing, fertilizer production and in alkaline batteries. They are caustic and produce heat when dissolved in water.

Applications of Potassium Hydroxide (KOH):

  • Soap and Detergent Manufacturing: KOH is essential for producing liquid soaps, soft soaps and shampoos because it yields softer, more soluble soaps than sodium hydroxide.

  • Biodiesel Production: It acts as a catalyst to transform fats and oils into biodiesel.

  • Agriculture and Fertilizers: Caustic Potash is used in producing potassium-based fertilizers and agrochemicals.

  • Industrial Cleaning & Desiccant: It is used in specialized cleaning products (like drain cleaners) to remove grease or oil from metals and used as a drying agent (desiccant).

  • Chemical Production: Potassium Hydroxide is a critical raw material in the manufacturing of potassium compounds like potassium carbonate, potassium permanganate and potassium phosphates.

  • Alkaline Batteries: Caustic Potash is used as an electrolyte in Ni-MH and alkaline batteries.

  • Water Treatment and pH Control: It is used to adjust pH levels in industrial water treatment processes.

  • Food Processing: It is used as a pH adjuster and thickener, such as for cleaning fruits/vegetables or processing cocoa.

  • Textile & Paper Industry: Potassium Hydroxide is employed for dyeing, bleaching and mercerizing textiles, as well as breaking down lignin in pulp manufacturing.

  • Medical/Laboratory Use: Potassium Hydroxide is used in dermatology (KOH tests) to identify fungi and in products designed for removing cuticles or treating warts.
